Day 3 - 23 Aug 16.
1100 Club 1100/1300 drivers gathered at 9AM in the damp car park adjacent to the River Waterford. A 2 minute drive along the River to our destination of Waterford Crystal was met with a very warm welcome from the Waterford Crystal Team who treated us to a personalised '1100 Club' tour of the Waterford Crystal Factory.
We learnt from the Waterford Crystal Team (Ian our Tour Guide) that there is no better car to transport Waterford Crystal than in an ADO 16. In his very own words.....the car that floats on fluid is good for the Crystal!! A photo shoot outside the Factory brought the city to a grinding halt as everyone stopped to enjoy and appreciate our spectacular display of ADO16s.
With our boots loaded with the finest Irish Crystal (Gemma and Stefan particularly lead loaded!) we drove onto the Pride of Jameson Whiskey. Meanwhile Tim' and Joanna's Morris 2 door suffered the shenanigans of the Irish Leprechaun antics; their car packed with Irish souvenirs [if the Irish truth be known]; Guinness barrels and Jameson's Whiskey(!!) had accidentally disconnected the fuel pump power supply. A quick power reconnect [drinking the souvenirs] had them on their way!
Our next tipsy stop (our passengers drink responsibly!) was at the world famous Jameson Distillery where we were treated to a guided tour and tasting of the produce (our drivers don't drink!). Team 1100 stepped up as willing volunteers to the whiskey tasting session! David Rachel, Vanessa Oakey and Jenny Lees made light work of what was on offer; suffice to say we don't think we'll be invited back!
With our boots loaded with Whiskey we made a quick getaway to Blarney Castle where much kissing ensued with the Blarney Stone and we departed with the gift of eloquence! A drive along the Southern Irish coastline to our next scheduled stop at Killarney was met with a very warm welcome and a personalised greeting from the Dromhall Hotel manager 'Sean' who complimented us with reserved '1100 Club parking'. Again treated to fine Irish Hospitality, food, Guinness, Whiskey, wine and a private member's lounge we celebrated the night away.
Our tour host Dean has treated us to an extra hour in bed tomorrow with a later departure at 10AM for a tour of the 'Ring of Kerry'. Suffice to say a brilliant day and we can't wait until to what tomorrow holds. 1100 Club touring Holidays rock!!!
