About the club

If your new to The 1100 Club, you'll probably be interested to hear how it all started? Here's the story so far...

The 1100 Club began one January day back in 1985, after the first get together in Buxton in autumn 1984. The club's main goal was to help members via advice and information to keep their 1100/1300 on the road. David Withington became the first General Secretary, Magazine Editor and Membership Secretary. Alistair Carter was nominated as the first club treasurer. Terry Land became spares secretary, with elusive parts being passed on at club meetings.

Membership enquiries came in thick and fast and from all over the world, within three months of the first meeting there were 53 members and 63 cars. The Bromley Pageant of June 1985 was the club's first outdoor show, more members joined and the idea of a National Rally was hit upon. The first such meet took place at Weston Park in September, 1985.

Idle Chatter

Idle Chatter was introduced to keep members up-to-date with information on local events, meetings, and that all important technical advice. For the first few years Idle Chatter was produced on a hired black and white photocopier in David Withington's front room, however now-a-days the club has a full colour A4 publication, that is professionally printed.

In 1990...

Idle Chatter was nothing more than an A5 Black & White publication. However, just because the magazine wasn't at the leading edge of design didn't stop it being crammed full of technical information, rally reports, and adverts.

In 1994...

Idle Chatter underwent a few changes, went to A4 and gained some colour on the front cover. Still it came full of news, technical information, reports and adverts.

In 1997...

Tish Lloyd Lucas was appointed as magazine editor. Idle Chatter gained a full colour cover, and still had the usual mix of rally reports, technical information and letters.

In 2002...

Idle Chatter won the "Class B" section of the 2002 Classic Car Weekly club magazine awards, beating off stiff competition from "Chiltern Vehicle Preservation Group" and the "Cat's Whiskers".

National Rallies

Every year the club holds a national event at a chosen location, more details are available on the events page. In 2002, the 1100 celebrated it's 40th birthday. There was a large gathering of 1100/1300's and a birthday cake that was provided by Helen Jones.

The website...

Janet Clark took the step of creating a presence on the web for The 1100 Club in 2002. Finally there was a place for club members to view up to date adverts and invite non-members to our events, and perhaps join the club.

Janet gave up the website in 2003, and Michael Turner took over. Since then, the website has been an extension for Idle Chatter. We now provide a members access area which contains up to date adverts, details of members cars, and special downloads for members only.

In 2008 Keith Hallock "took the reigns" from Michael and hopes to continue to provide an area where 1100 owners can aquire new information on one of Britains most popular cars of the 1960s and 70s.
